About the Item

J.&J. Kohn – Josef Hoffmann – Armchair – “Fledermaus” – Black-Finished Beech & Red Leather – Austria, Jugendstil, circa 1900–1910 A rare and authentic Josef Hoffmann-designed Fledermaus armchair, produced by J.&J. Kohn in Austria around 1900–1910. This iconic piece reflects the geometric precision and refined elegance of the Viennese Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) movement. Crafted in bent beech wood with a black finish, the armchair features gently curved arms, a pierced backrest, and clean, architectural lines. The original upholstery has been replaced with high-quality red leather, creating a bold visual contrast that enhances its early modernist character. Dimensions: Height: 77 cm × Width: 57 cm × Depth: 57 cm Condition: Fair condition – structurally sound with visible signs of wear, patina, and age-appropriate surface marks. A true collector’s piece with timeless appeal. Provenance: Austria, circa 1900–1910. Original period production by Gebrüder J.&J. Kohn, prior to the Kohn-Mundus merger. Two pieces available.
