About the Item

This elegant Danish mid-century armchair, designed by renowned furniture maker Frits Henningsen (1889–1965), dates back to the 1940s. Henningsen, who ran a furniture workshop in central Copenhagen and personally designed his own creations, was committed to exceptional craftsmanship. He ensured that each piece was meticulously handcrafted using traditional, labor-intensive methods from the 19th century. Unlike younger designers of the time who favored modern, angular lines, Henningsen appreciated the soft, flowing curves of older furniture styles, believing that such designs offered superior comfort and sophistication. This chair features a striking two-tone purple check upholstery, complemented by a robust mahogany frame with gracefully sloping arms and a caned backrest. Caning, frame, and upholstery are in excellent condition.
