About the Item

Designed in 1970 by Giancarlo Piretti, Plona is a folding and stackable armchair, capable of combining aesthetics, functionality and comfort thanks to its exceptional design. The sturdy tubular structure is in polished stainless aluminum alloy, with die-cast light alloy joints. The bare body, in shockproof plexiglass, can be covered in lycra. Its different colors and its agile and innovative design make Plona perfect for any environment. Giancarlo Piretti was born in Bologna in 1940. He attended the State Art Institute of Bologna, where he obtained the title of Drawing Teacher. In 1960 he attended the Academy of Eine Arts in Bologna. He later taught Interior Design at the Istituto Statale d'Arte in Bologna for seven years. In the same period he worked as an interior designer for twelve years at Anonima Castelli, designing their lines of furniture for the home, ofEice and Community, for which he Eiled numerous Industrial and mechanical invention patents and ornamental models. Among his best-known projects are PLIA, a folding chair, PLATONE, a folding table, DSC (106- AXIS), a seating system for communities and institutional spaces, SISTEMA 61, a modular system of sofas. Anonima Castelli was founded in 1877 by Ettore Castelli as a cabinet-maker. after a gradual transformation, between the sixties and the eighties the company gives shape to one of the most vital and innovative projects in the world, collaborating with illustrious names of Italian and international design: emilio ambasz, Rodolfo Bonetto, nilo gioacchini, Giancarlo Piretti , Charles Pollock, f.a. Porsche, Richard Sapper, Claudio Bellini, Michele De Lucchi, Doriana and Massimiliano Fuksas, Gino Gamberini, Enzo Mari and Mario Ruiz. its products soon become iconic and will be chosen to furnish the most important presidential ofEices of banks and large industries.
