Brut Terrazzo Bench

About the Item

The ‘Brut’ collection by Assimply Studio transforms demolition waste from masonry walls into unique pieces of furniture. These materials, which were once house structures, are given a new lease of life by being carefully processed and transformed into benches, tables and stools. The project seeks to experiment with new ways of reusing solid waste that would otherwise be discarded, giving this raw material a leading role in new constructions. The waste used includes leftover ceramics, porcelain, tiles and mortar, all crushed into appropriate sizes. The simple, uncomplicated shapes of the pieces allow the dynamic pattern of demolition materials to show through in an authentic way. This design is honest with its materiality and reveals its natural composition with grace, evoking the brutalist movement by highlighting the use of exposed raw materials and the display of structural elements rather than adornment. The centerpiece of the ‘Brut’ collection is the curved modular bench. By combining two or more benches, it is possible to create an undulating shape that extends infinitely; three of them together form a perfect circle. This piece is designed for outdoor areas, balconies or even the interior of a living room. The collection also includes lighter pieces, such as side tables in two heights and a three-legged stool, whose supports are made from old metal rods taken from the railings that used to protect the windows in our workshop. The pieces are available in raw grey, representing the natural coloring of demolition waste, without additives, or in a brown pigmented version. The metal bases can be found in sand, terracotta or brown, offering various combinations.
