Parkbänk Nr. 3 by Folke Bensow for Näfveqvarns Bruk

About the Item

An original Nr. 3 Parkbänk designed by Folke Bensow for Näfveqvarns Bruk in the 1920s. The cast iron ends to the bench show fine craftsmanship, with their design pulling away from their heavy medium. The lower half is decoratively braced with a star or sun medallion, visually balancing the acute angles and unruly curves of the upper half. Simply constructed, yet strikingly ornate, these richly patinated, dark metal ends contrast the newly restored seat and back which has been fashioned in a pale oak. The design typifies Nordic Classicism, better known as Swedish Grace. Clearly taking inspiration from organic shapes and a sense of movement seen on the Continent, this bench remains remarkably Nordic in sensibility.
