Finn Juhl Model 48 Chair by Baker, in Teak and Maple (2 available)

About the Item

*Currently being restored* This set of 2 Finn Juhl Model 48 Chairs by Baker feature solid teak and maple frames in two tones that are beautifully sculpted and incredibly comfortable with an equally attractive curved seat and back in original black leather. The 48 chair is part of the 48 Series which was presented at the Cabinet Makers’ Guild Exhibition in 1948. Even to the modern eye it is clear that Finn Juhl's ideas reached far into the future, when they were presented in 1948. The 48 chair is easily recognizable because of Finn Juhl's sculptural shapes and delicate details. The chair embraces you as you sit in it while the rounded wood frame are shaped to fit the gravity of the resting body. The organically shaped seat and backrest are raised from the carrying frame, making it appear as if the law of gravity has been defeated. Finn Juhl was greatly inspired by both modernism in art and functionalism in architecture. His genius was cross-pollinating these two fields, thus creating a completely new artistic idiom. Like sculptures, Finn Juhl’s designs are created to stand freely in a room. At the same time, they are developed with a playful insight into the practical function of every detail. This pair would be an incredible addition to any space. **Price is per chair** Dimensions: 31.5”H x 27”W x 21”D Seat height: 16.5”
