About the Item

Iconic and famous chairs from the Artemide Company; since its debut on the market, the famous Selene Chair designed by Vico Magistretti has stood out as an elegant and functional type of seating. The conception of this piece of the furniture helped to demonstrate that even from the use of technologies something refined and not just useful could be born. Mass-produced, the Selene is technically made by a single molding and pressing action of fiberglass-reinforced polyester injection molding. The designer decided to solve the structural problem of the legs by opting for an "S" shape that gave greater strength to the plastic sheet only 3 millimeters thick. The "S" leg maintains the rigidity of the seat and prevents the seat from bending under the user's weight. It is now a cult object a true collectible design product. Selene is a chair designed to be used both indoors and outdoors, practical and handy and its particular shape allows it to be stacked. Soft, rounded lines are typical of the 1970s Space Age. Our chairs were designed by Vico Magistretti and produced by Artemide (Pregnana Milanese, Milan) between 1969 and 1970, they bear the mark of originality stamped on the back of the seat (see photo). Vico Magistretti, born in Milan in 1920, is one of the most important Italian masters of design understood as a project in its broadest sense, extended to all aspects of living; from the architecture of buildings to the most diverse interiors to objects and furnishings that have become legendary, such as precisely the Selene chair. The furniture, lamps, and objects he designed can be found all over the world, and the most important design museums have dedicated exhibitions to him and welcomed his works into their permanent collections. Design, innovation and Made in Italy are the principles by which Artemide has revolutionized the way we design light and objects; its products are created to primarily meet human needs, and accompany them in their daily activities, improving their quality of life. The Artemide Group, headquartered in Pregnana Milanese, operates worldwide through 24 subsidiaries and distributes its products in as many as 83 countries. It also boasts a network of about 60 single-brand showrooms in the world's most important cities and 5 manufacturing plants in Italy, France, Hungary, and the USA, as well as 2 glass factories and 2 research and development centers in Italy and France. All this adds up to a total of nearly 700 employees. Artemide's objects and lamps are exhibited in the world's greatest museums and most famous design collections: MoMA in New York, Victoria and Albert Museum in London, National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan, National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and many others. Measures width cm.47, depth cm.40, height cm.76, seat cm.45. The chairs are in good condition, all have the original rubber feet. The very particular chair has an elegant and aggressive shape; Pierre Guariche is a legendary French designer from the 20th century.
