About the Item

I am offering for sale a pair of vintage cantilever chairs, most likely made in Italy between the 60s and 70s. The model of this chair is iconic and its name can change between an alphanumeric series and the name "Cesca" depending on the year and the company that produced it. Produced from the 30s onwards by: Standard-Mobel, Thonet Cidue and Gavina (in Italy) to date it is the Knoll company that holds the patent for this chair with timeless charm. The chromed tubular steel frame makes it transparent to the eye, so much so that it seems like we are sitting in the air. Solid and stable, it is still mobile and able to accompany and follow the movements of the person sitting on it. The back and seat of this chair remain in the theme of lightness and impalpability, thanks to the use of woven wicker mounted on essential black-stained beech wood frames. Who was the first to use tubular steel for the production of cantilever chairs between Marcel Breuer, Mart Stam and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe could be debated endlessly, what we know for sure is that this idea revolutionized the way of understanding the "Chair" transforming an almost exclusively artisanal product into an industrial one. We do not know who produced the chairs that we are offering for sale as they are without labels or engravings on the body, what we know is they are a high quality product, in good vintage condition and with a stunning patina of time. The wheat color taken from the woven wicker is splendid and the black paint of the seat and backrest has the right signs of use and time that determine the originality of a piece of mid-century modern. Reach out for any additional questions.
