Pair of armchairs model FM61, in steel and red plywood, by Radboud van Beekum for UMS Pastoe, The Netherlands 1981.
Cube lounge chairs by Radboud van Beekum. This model was first presented at the 1980 Triennial in Poznan. After which Pastoe started the production. The frame consist of white coated steel strips. All connections have a rounding as if you can 'click' the frame together. Back and seating are from blue colored plywood. The back is slightly curved to provide more comfort.
Van Beekum was influenced by De Stijl and Gerrit Rietveld, which is clearly visible at this minimalistic model. The FM60 series was a reaction and progression of the Red-Blue Chair by Rietveld. The iconic 'Cube chair' of Pastoe was also produced with a canvas or leather seating and reproduced in the 2000s. This pair is an early model and rare to find in this color composition.
