Pierre Paulin 'Boston' Garden Chairs for Henry Massonnet in Black and Red

About the Item

Boston garden chairs by French furniture designer Pierre Paulin and manufactured by Henry Massonnet/STAMP in 1988. Paulin was influenced here by (and built on the work of) Dutch "De Stijl" painter Piet Mondriaan and Glasgow art nouveau and art deco artist and architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The maker, STAMP, surprisingly started as a manufacturing company that focused on moulded plastic products (with a cooling box for fishermen being their biggest success). It was when Massonnet, who was an avid fisherman himself, designed a portable stool for himself to take on fishing trips (and that design subsequently becoming an overnight success) that the company pivoted towards furniture. This chair was the culmination of that very successful trajectory change. Chairs are made of polypropylene and are suitable for indoor and outdoor use. All in original condition with visible wear and scratching consistent with their age and usage.
