X-ray is a family of comfortable upholstered pieces: a sofa (2, 3, 4 seaters), a daybed and an armchair.
Instead of hiding the structures under fabric, Alain Gilles literally X-rayed the welcoming and comfortable traditional sofa to create a graphic and sculptural range of seats for the home and the office. As a result, the pieces are captivating both from the front and from the back.
Design as a second life. After studying Political Sciences and Marketing Management, Alain Gilles went on to work in the international financial world for 5 years. But one has to live his own life. So, thanks to the moral support of his wife, he went back to studying Industrial Design in France.

Right after I graduated as an Industrial designer back in 1999 I started a furniture brand together with my friend Steven Brouns. We felt there was a need for a new type of furniture that was able to adjust itself to the ever changing life situations. Hence the name Livingelements. An antique or vintage daybed is a practical solution for furnishing any modest-sized bedroom or guest room and can even be a versatile option for the reading nook in your living room.
Daybeds, which traditionally comprise a simple three-sided frame and twin-size mattress or boxy foam cushion, have a long history that dates back at least to the early Greeks and Romans.
