Jean Prouvé "Scal" Bed, circa 1960

About the Item

The "SCAL" bed is an iconic design by Jean Prouvé. This particular variant featuring a swiveling tablet designed by Charlotte Perriand, is a remarkable piece. It showcases a sleek design with a frame made of black-lacquered metal, complemented by a sidetablet crafted from oak. The cushion and mattress are made in cotton cloth. The bed originates from Cansado, a mining town in Mauritania which was initially built by Miferma to provide accommodation for workers involved in iron mine extractions. The city of Cansado consisted of houses for workers, executives, and directors, and much of the furniture in these homes was designed by Charlotte Perriand, who incorporated her extensive expertise into their creation. Manufactured around 1960 by Steph Simon. Literature : "Jean Prouvé Volume I" by C. Coley, R. Guidot, and F.C. Prodhon, published in 2017, page 355.
