Early Set of 5 Edward Wormley Riemerschmid Chairs, Dunbar Furniture, 1947

About the Item

Set your sights on these absolutely stunning, gloriously reupholstered, and ridiculously stylish chairs designed by none other than Edward Wormley for Dunbar Furniture, of Berne, Indiana. These incredibly rare beauties were designed in 1947, but their story begins even earlier as these chairs were designed as an homage to legendary architect and designer Richard Riemerschmid’s Jugendstil side chair from the Dresden Exhibition of 1899. This set of Wormley’s Model 4797A, features an ebonized walnut with satin finish that whispers elegance while shouting style. The seats are dreaped in tan Italian leather that’s been freshly reupholstered. This set includes not just four chairs, but a bonus fifth chair; because what’s better than four fabulous chairs? Five, obviously. It’s perfect for when you have that one extra guest who’s just too fabulous to leave out. Richard Riemerschmid – The OG of Jugendstil (that's Art Nouveau for those in the know). His work at the Dresden Exhibition of 1899 was nothing short of revolutionary. Riemerschmid’s designs were all about clean lines, organic forms, and functional beauty. He basically said, "Why can’t everyday items be as gorgeous as they are useful?" and the world was like, "Yes, please!" Edward Wormley – Fast forward to 1947, and you have Edward Wormley, a designer who took Riemerschmid’s visionary ideas and ran with them. Working for Dunbar Furniture, Wormley was all about blending the past and the present. He had a knack for creating pieces that were timeless, elegant, and oh-so-functional. His Model 4797A is a testament to his genius, taking cues from Riemerschmid and making them fashionable for the 20th century (with a little extra flair, naturally). These chairs aren’t just furniture; they’re a statement. They say, "I appreciate history, design, and a little bit of cheeky elegance." They’re perfect for the design savvy person who knows that life is too short for boring furniture. Each chair is a conversation starter, a piece of art, and a comfy spot for your derriere. These chairs would look incredible in any mid century modern, modern or contemporary environment. These chairs are currently in our gallery alongside a Vladimir Kagan sofa and Milo Baughman dining table, and not only do they hold their own, they steal the show! With clean, swooping lines and timeless craftsmanship, these baddies will never go out of style.
