About the Item

The S41 dining chairs, designed by Edoardo Landi in 1973 and crafted by Studio D in Italy, are a striking example of mid-century modern furniture. Produced in a limited series, these chairs were part of a collection that also featured cabinets and tables. Constructed from robust pine wood, the S41 chairs boast a distinctive burned stained finish that enhances their unique aesthetic appeal. Their design is marked by a series of square slats that are symmetrically attached to the central seat, creating an eye-catching visual from every angle. The square structure lends a minimalist appearance, while the substantial slats convey a sense of strength and durability. To balance this robustness, the chairs feature openings in the legs and back, creating a light, airy, and almost transparent effect. These chairs blend charm and sturdiness, standing out in any dining room setting. The chairs are in good condition, 1 of the chairs has a reinforcement at the botom of the seat which is an old repair, it is only visible from the bottom and well done. Kindly note that these chairs are sold as a set of five. Edoardo Landi, born in 1937 in San Felice sul Panaro in the province of Modena, Italy, is a renowned architect and designer. He graduated in Architecture from Venice, where he also attended an Industrial Design Course from 1962 to 1964. In 1959, Landi co-founded Gruppo Enne (or Gruppo N) in Padua alongside Biasi, Chiggio, Costa, and Massironi. He was a key figure in the international New Tendencies movement starting in 1961, participating in several of its exhibitions, including the first, second, and fourth editions in Zagreb in 1961, 1963, and 1969, respectively. From 1962 to 1964, he was involved in the travelling "Arte Programmata" (Programmed Art) exhibition at Olivetti stores in major cities like Milan, Venice, Rome, London, and Paris, establishing himself as a leading exponent of Italian cinematographic and programmed art. His work with Gruppo Enne earned first prize at the 4th Biennale International Art Exhibition in San Marino in 1963, coinciding with the group's first exhibition at Studio F in Ulm. Literateure: E. Augusto Bozzi Ariston dining chairs Saporiti Italy 1954
By Augusto Bozzi, Saporiti
Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Highly rare and beautiful set of 6 so called ‘Ariston’ dining chairs designed by Augusto Bozzi and manufactured by Saporiti, Italy 1954. These chairs have a pressed plywood seat which is finished with teak veneer at the front and back, the black painted metal wire frame supports the seats. The structure provides stability and also a nice contrast with the deep coloured plywood seats. The seats are only connected to the base with 2 screws which are decoratively worked away in the seat, but these details also support the aesthetics of the design. This style was popular in the 1950s. Bozzi was one of the designers who gained credits for his designs during that period, putting Saporiti on the map and becoming one of the big players...
