About the Item

A very good and sturdy set of ash and elm Windsor chairs with a well developed rich nutty colour and good patination and all in excellent robust and original condition. Two carvers and three standards, all with Prince of Wales feathers to the splats and each splat pierced and carved with three delicate roundels. Comfortable with deep and wide seats and a gentle rake to the backs. Plenty of width between the arms of the carvers. Very sturdy, no weak joints, no worm or splits - all really good chairs and with well shaped elms seats. Strongly recommended, this is a lovely early set of Windsor chairs in excellent original condition and all with a great colour. Dimensions of the carvers are: 34.5 inches high, 19 inches wide and 20 inches deep. The seat height is approximately 16.25 inches and the height from floor to top of arms is 25.25 inches, the width at the narrowest point between the arms is 18 inches. Dimensions of the standards are: 34.5 inches high, 16.5 inches wide, and 22 inches deep. The seat height is 17 inches.

A beautifully shaped William and Mary oak armchair with well carved horse-bone legs and arm supports, scrolled feet and handsomely carved front stretcher with S scrolls and geometric motif. The tall upholstered back over spiral turned legs and original spiral and bulb turned stretchers. In very good condition for age with some small old dings, some old woodworm, long long dead and a couple of small very old repairs - not affecting structure. The chair is extremely comfortable and solid with a good width between the arms, deep well padded seat and gentle rake to the padded back. Upholstered in a moss green high quality velvet with matching fringed braid in very good condition also.
