About the Item

Robert Haussmann for De Sede, 'Unesco' dining or conference chair, model 'RH-304', leather, chrome-plated steel, Switzerland, 1957 Designed by Robert Haussmann, this cantilever chair was created for the Swiss department at the Unesco Headquarters in Paris (1957). Its defining visual element is the cantilevered structure. The absence of back legs instantly creates a sense of lightness, almost as if the seat is floating. This formal gesture – an architectural "lift" – is made possible by a sharply bent chrome-plated steel frame that balances engineering confidence with a visual sense of flow. The steel tubes dip and rise in a continuous line. The seat and backrest are generously cushioned. Upholstered in deeply tufted cognac brown leather, it is warm and slightly glossy, buttoned in a grid. Despite being over six decades old, it still speaks fluently in the language of contemporary design. De Sede once started as a saddler's workshop in Klingnau, Switzerland. Over time, the company expanded its vision and dedicated itself to crafting high-quality seating furniture from the finest leather. In 1965, this family-run business evolved into a professional enterprise known as De Sede AG. Renowned for their meticulous attention to detail, De Sede products prioritize the needs and comfort of their users. Consequently, every DeSede item is made from premium materials, ensuring both durability and comfort. Kindly be informed that the photographs provided are merely examples, as we had more of these chairs in stock. It is important to note that the chair may vary in terms of patina and condition. Giuseppe Davanzo 'Serena' Dining Chair in Ash
Located in Waalwijk, NL
Giuseppe Davanzo for Appiani Selezione, dining chair 'Serena', ash, plastic, Italy, 1960s This dining chair was designed by Giuseppe Davanzo in the 1960s. On an ash frame rest the round seat and backrest. The frame shows a warm tone of the ash wood with black metal connections. The seat and backrest are made out of red plastic, that catches the eye immediately. Due to their roundness, bent edges and their attractive color the chair has a certain playful character. Giuseppe Davanzo (1921-2007) was born in Ponte di Piave. After serving in the Second World War, Davanzo studied at the Regio Istituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice. His work was mostly influenced by Carlo Scarpa and Franco Albini. The designer died...
