About the Item

beautifull easy lounge chair in plywood, designed by Gunter Renkel in 1959 for Twen Rego, Netherlands. With it’s very reduced plywood seat shell in contrast to the minimalist steel base this chair offers great elegance. The outstanding composition of the verneer in the seat with its striped pattern is very unusual for this chair compared to the regular teak verneer common for this Modell. His attitude towards designing furniture can very well be discribed for the base of the chair as well. It’s constructed from laquered steel. Elegantly the braces underneath the seat, by their dimensions and welding give the very light construction it‘s stability. Gunter Renkel‘s great emphasis on simplicity and functionality and correspondence between shape, materials and dimensions charaterize this mid-Century lounge chair and his practice as an industrial designer in general. His work is characterized by clear shapes, attention to detail and clever use of materials. The chair is in good vintage condition with signs of wear and use appropriate to its age.
