Eero Saarinen Womb Chair & Ottoman Medium in Alexander Girard Quatrefoil Fabric

About the Item

One of the most iconic chair designs of the 20th century, Eero Saarinen designed this lounge chair for Florence Knoll at the request of “a chair that was like a basket full of pillows.” This original 2010s Womb Chair and ottoman medium size set is configured with polished chrome steel frame and custom ordered Alexander Girard Quatrefoil Silver Fabric. The chair and ottoman is in excellent original condition. The chair and ottoman: Eero Saarinen designed the groundbreaking Womb Chair at Florence Knoll’s request for “a chair that was like a basket full of pillows…something I could really curl up in.” The fiberglass design supported multiple sitting postures and provided a comforting sense of security — hence the name. This 85% scaled version is perfect for smaller apartments and space. The Fabric: Alexander Girard designed this textile during his tenure as founding director of the Herman Miller Textile Division (1952 to 1973) and was only used in a handful of special projects. The Quatrefoil fabric is possibly his most well known fabric pattern design, and currently available to purchase as pillow covers.
