Early Model Finn Juhl for France & Søn Pair of Lounge Chairs in Teak

About the Item

Finn Juhl for France & Søn, pair of lounge chairs early model '136', teak, fabric upholstery, Denmark, 1959. Very honest and open design by the Danish architect and designer Finn Juhl. As a lot of his designs, this chair as well shows its Danish origin all-over, with beautiful details in the teak finish. The slightly tilted seating gives the utmost comfort. The tweed fabric gives a homely feeling to this sleek yet elegant design. Finn Juhl (1912-1989), born in Denmark, planned on becoming an art historian when he was young. His father decided it would be a better career move if he went to become an architect. After graduating in architecture, Juhl worked for ten years with Vilhelm Lauritzen. At the age of 33, Juhl opened his own furniture design practice. In the 1940s he designed a number of creations that regenerated Danish furniture design and broke with the established furniture tradition. Juhl is now known as the one of the most important pioneers of Danish design. He was in fact the first Danish furniture designer to gain widespread international recognition. His work was vital to spreading the “Danish Modern” concept around the world. His designs are known for being exquisitely elegant, refined up until the smallest detail and extremely well executed. Please note that these chairs are in good, used condition. The fabric shows some signs of wear and age. Reupholstery can be done before shipping by our experienced craftsmen and -women in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece contains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.
