Hand Carved High Back Witco Tiki Throne King Chairs in Faux Leopard Fur

About the Item

Take a walk on the wild side, or maybe just have a seat there with scepter in hand. Each anthropomorphic gorilla-arm-chair has been recovered in high-quality, cruelty free, faux-fur that very much resembles the look and feel of leopard fur. Each high back is adorned with two hand-carved conquistador heads donning their iconic helmets. These highly collectible and hard-to-find thrown chairs were born of the jet-set era. The 1960s was the golden age of air travel and Americans were absolutely fascinated with “Exotica.” Ephemera from exotic tropical lands around South Asia were all the rage and gave birth to an explosion of tiki motifs in popular American culture. This project was a complete tear-down and rebuild. Every section was unbolted and individually restored. This sinuous, dark cedar has been painstakingly detailed by our in-house restoration team to both preserve the patina and address any imperfections in the wood. Lightly recolored and clear-coated to accentuate and preserve the character. The seats and backs were professionally reupholstered, and the results speak for themselves. We're more than certain these will exceed expectations. Robert Post Junior and Artist William Westenhaver Created Witco in 1959. The two capitalized on the exotica trend by creating lavishly bold, roughly carved wood furniture and decor. The delightfully dramatic furniture was so beloved during the period that Elvis created an entire “Jungle Room” in his Graceland home featuring Witco furniture! Witco remains a mainstay among collectors today. You can even see original Witco pieces still in use at Graceland, and other iconic tiki venues like Polynesian Gardens, the Hawaiian Inn, and the Aku Tiki Inn all located in Florida. We have other Witco items available including a pair of these conquistador chairs with arms, Witco cat and a Witco dining table with matching chairs. All of these pieces are sold separate. Contact us if you are interested in any of the other Witco pieces. Each chair measures: 59.5"H x 28.25"W x 23.75"D Arm Height: 24.75" Seat dimensions: 19.25"H x 18.5"W x 19"D.

Restored Witco Tiki Carved Wood Frog Ottoman Toad Stool
By Witco, William Westenhaver / Witco
Located in Chattanooga, TN
Jump at the opportunity to own this adorable Witco frog ottoman. This frog foot stool is one of the most rare Witco pieces. Call it what you will, a footstool, or a toad stool. He’s a seat for your bottom or your feet. The tiki inspired frog was carved from a single piece of swamp cedar wood. These Witco foot stools seldom come to market. When they do pop up, they’re battered and tattered. This charming guy is has been beautifully restored. The faux leopard upholstery is new. Mr. Froggy is looking chipper with freshly painted eyes and mouth, matching original spec. Fortunately, he has his original knobby eyeballs. The seat turns so you and Mr. Froggy can keep watch. You’ll have a grin just as big when you make this guy a part of your home. We have several more pieces from Witco including a sofa, dining table with chairs, group of large and small cat figurines, wall mounting shield...

Witco Red Faux Fur Cedar Wood Carved Shield Knight and Spears
By William Westenhaver / Witco, Witco
Located in Chattanooga, TN
Incredible original Witco carved cedar wood Medieval shield. This shield is in time capsule quality original condition. The original red faux fur has a brilliant color with no fading, no stains. Collectors will instantly recognize the chainsaw carved, richly figured cedar wood that distinguishes Witco. The shield is crowned with ornate carving. The medallion at center features a knight’s profile silhouette framed by two horses. The knight is highlighted with apropos silver paint. Two spears criss-cross the shield with gold colored metal chain dangling from each side. We had the piece arranged above a fireplace which seemed more that fitting. This is the ultimate man-cave accessory. LARPers and Dungeons and Dragons fans, you’ve met your match. We also have a Witco dining set, armless chairs and armchairs in the same red faux fur fabric (sold separate). Create an envious Renaissance theme room by adding more pieces of the collection. Pair of Witco Tiki Carved Cedar Wood Meathead Cat Sculpture Figures
By William Westenhaver / Witco, Witco
Located in Chattanooga, TN
Rare pair of Witco Meathead cat sculptures. The two solid cedar wood carved Meathead cats come complete with their eyes intact. We are mentioning this because these cats are often missing their signature orange and white eyes. These nearly 3-foot tall Witco cats look strikingly similar to the character “Meathead” in the film Meatballs 2. Vintage 1960s-1970s, carved from solid swamp cedar wood. If you’re into Tiki, then you probably know Witco. Collector’s adore Witco for it’s wild design. The company went full-force in capturing the zeitgeist of exotica in the 1960s. Polynesian, Asian, and tropical culture and aesthetics began to make their way into American homes. Elvis movies and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “South Pacific” introduced America to tiki, Mai Tais and Luas. It’s still tiki time in the hearts of Witco collectors. These larger than life cats are the perfect mascot for your island lounge. We have several more pieces from Witco including the tall Siamese and trio of smaller cats, a sofa, dining set, conquistador chairs, wall mounted shield...
