Red & Blue De Stijl Armchair by Gerrit Rietveld, vintage 1970-80s

About the Item

The icon of the "De Stijl" movement, created in 1917 by Gerrit Rietveld. This chair is a one off piece, made by a German engineer in the 1970s for his private use. This is a very well made version of the Rietveld chair. Solid beech or oak was used for the structure, seat and back in Multiplex panels. It is very well finished, the black parts are tinted, leaving the grain of the wood visible, while on the colored parts the paint is covering. Very good vintage condition, with a very beautiful patina. A small touch-up to the upper corner of the back of the seat. Seat height 30cm (middle of the seat)

Pair vintage Carlo de Carli Lounge Chairs 802 upholstered in Fendi Casa Velvet
By Carlo De Carli, Cassina
Located in Vorst, BE
Pair of very elegant vintage Lounge Chairs in the style of Carlo de Carli model ‘802’ chairs. These are very similar to the 802 chair, you have to look very closely to find the differences. The 802 chairs were produced by Cassina. They have been designed by Carlo de Carli in 1960 for the ‘Hotel Parco Dei Principi’ in Sorrento, Italy. Gio Ponti was the architect of the Hotel and a close friend of De Carli. Ponti furnished it with many of his furniture designs and with a few pieces by created by Carlo De Carli. The design is characterised by the dynamic line that runs from the backrest all the way down to the front legs and forms the armrests. The chairs are in restored state. The tappered legs in ebonized walnut wood have been refinished. The chairs have been newly upholstered in high quality velvet by Fendi Casa / Luxury Living Group.

Gerrit Rietveld, Red and Blue Chair / Authentic Chair
By Gerrit Rietveld Jr.
Located in Zürich, CH
Here we see a playful kind of experimentation, different from the average modern design, which is more well-behaved and dogmatic. It’s radical, it’s curious, it pushes boundaries. That is a one-of-a-kind piece – unique and outstanding, it holds a museum exhibit quality. An artefact for collectors and connoisseurs. A piece without any compromises. Highly valuable, rarely even offered by auction houses. However, it comes with a price. Originally designed in 1917, this chair is a true representation and one of the first pieces of De Stijl movement. Founded in the Netherlands as a reaction against the horrors of WWI, its visual language consisted of pure, geometrical forms and primary colours. As forms and shapes tended to establish balance and harmony in a world of chaos, this piece is a manifestation of the idea. Some of the first chairs were made for the "Rietveld Schröder House...
