Fantastic collection of Pierre Jeanneret office chairs. Model PJ-0101-6S. Solid teak chairs with compass style legs, cane seat, and cane seat back. Slanted, slightly curved backrest. Hand stenciling on the back of both chairs reads : "P.U. chem - 48" and "P.U. chem - 49" respectively. These chairs came directly from India, and have never hit the open market for sale. Stenciling on each chair designating the location of the chairs in Chandigarh. Made for the university housing in Sector 14. Have all photos from before and after careful restoration. Restoration performed by artisans in India that specialize in Pierre Jeanneret. New cushions.

Hand stenciling on the back of both chairs reads : Ch.L.(P)-063 and Ch.L.(P)-033 respectively. These chairs came directly from India, and have never hit the open market for sale. Stenciling on each chair designating the location of the chairs in Chandigarh. Made for the administrative buildings and university residences in Sector 14. Have all photos from before and after careful restoration. Restoration performed by artisans in India that specialize in Pierre Jeanneret. New cushions and cane.

A set of eight Floating Back Armchairs called office cane chair by Pierre Jeanneret (1896-1967) from Chandigarh. In teak with new black cotton cushion and with slightly curved back.
Cane seat and back, circa 1956. New caning as most every chair of this style has been newly caned. Original caning rarely survived they years.
These have been restored with a wax finish. Signs of use and wear attribute is originality.
Office Cane chairs; Pierre Jeanneret; Floating Back; India; Chandigarh; PJ-SI-28-A; 1955; Mid-Century Modern; Le Corbusier; Armchairs; Iconic "Office Cane Chairs" created by Pierre Jeanneret in the 1950s for the city of Chandigarh in India, the utopian city designed by his cousin Le Corbusier. Made of solid wood with seat and backrest in braided canework. Tilted backrest and asymmetric flat profiled "compass"-type double side leg assembly, with the legs connected by a crosspiece and supporting the armrests. Slanted, slightly curved backrest, separate from the seat. The seemingly floating back as well as the "compass"-type legs are very typical for this office chair. These specific features make the design even more powerful and interesting.
