About the Item

Art Nouveau ebonised beech rocking chair Attributed to Jacob and Josef Kohn Re-upholstered in ‘Glasgow Rose’ velvet Rare oversized model Circa 1900 Founded in 1849 by father and son Jacob & Josef Kohn who established their furniture workshop, specialising in bentwood, cane and upholstery. They worked closely with the Wiener Werkstatte, led by the architect and designer Josef Hoffmann and his associates such as Dagobert Peche and Koloman Moser. The Wiener Werkstätte drew from movements such as the Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau as well as from traditional folk art, and forecasted the flowering of Art Deco and the International Style in the interwar period.
