About the Item
An innovative cabinet maker, George Hunzinger was born in Tuttlingen, Germany, to a family of furniture makers dating back to the 17th century. After immigrating to America he established his workshop and showrooms in Greenwich Village, embracing industrial techniques and producing high quality furniture for the growing middle class. Along with his machine-turned, ornamental or "fancy" furniture, his stationary rocker was key to his success. At the time of his death, he had patented 21 of his technical advancements.
