About the Item
A superb pair of Regency oak Gothic Revival hall chairs. English - Circa 1825.
Excellent examples with architectural influence, having lancet arched shaped tops with fabulous quatrefoil cut out decoration to the lower backs. Note the unusual quatrefoil cut out at each edge - an innovative and clever design. The sides of each seat boast arched friezes decorated with blind quatrefoil. The chairs terminate on spade legs.
Constructed in solid quarter swan English oak, the chairs have their original finish and patina. The medullary rays on the seats show well.
One of the chairs has had a historic repair to the back legs. There have been dowel pegs added on each side. The other chair has had some woodworm to the inside back rail. This has been fully treated with a woodworm killer, and filled. Some wooden blocks have also been replaced to the underside of the seat. Please refer to the photographs. One of the chairs has a dished out hand grip to the back.
Both chairs are solid in construction and have no loose joints.
Delivery included to mainland England or Wales.
