Antonio Citterio Set Of Two Esosoft Outdoor Sofa For Cassina A two- or three-seater sofa designed by Antonio Citterio and inspired by textural contrast. The exoskeleton of the base supports a shell in hand-woven fibre. The basket is a container for cushions that can be placed against the backrest and freely positioned for ever-changing dynamic comfort. Thanks to the work carried out by Cassina LAB, the padding in the cushions is made of circular materials, like polyurethane with a percentage of polyols derived from materials of biological origin and recycled PET wadding. The base can be disassembled to facilitate recycling of its components at the end of the product’s life cycle. LEGS Cast aluminium. In the Esosoft Outdoor Sofa, the distinctive exoskeleton of the base supports a shell in hand-woven fibre similar to natural fibre, that guarantees a high degree of strength and durability over time. The basket, reminiscent of those made of wicker, is made with an elaborate weave reminiscent of ancient handiwork and serves as a container for soft cushions that can be placed against the backrest and freely positioned for ever-changing dynamic comfort. Esosoft Outdoor has a conscious soul: thanks to the work carried out by Cassina LAB, the soft padding of the cushions is made with circular materials, like polyurethane with a percentage of polyols derived from materials of biological origin and recycled PET wadding, laminated to water-repellent fabric to prevent water from penetrating the interior. Thanks to the exposed screws on the metal structure, the base can be disassembled to facilitate recycling of its components at the end of the product’s life cycle. From 1972 to 1981, after graduating from the Milan Polytechnic, Citterio worked primarily in the field of industrial design in collaboration with Paolo Nava. At the same time, he also pursued his own work in both architecture and interior design. Between 1986 and 1996, he worked alongside his wife, architect Terry Dwan, designing buildings in Europe and Japan. In 1987 and 1994, Antonio Citterio received the Compasso d’Oro-ADI award. In 2000, he founded “Antonio Citterio and Partners”, an architecture and interior design practice, actively developing projects across the globe and embracing all scales of intervention to develop complex design projects in synergy with a qualified network of consultancy specialists. In 2010, the practice changed its name to “Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel and Partners”. Today the practice is known as “ACPV Architects Antonio Cittterio Patricia Viel” and is led by Citterio, Viel and eight partners. From 2006 to 2016, Antonio Citterio was professor of Architectural Design at the Mendrisio Academy of Architecture (Switzerland). In 2008, he was honored with the title of “Royal Designer for Industry” by the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce of London. In 2017, at Casa Artusi, he was awarded the “Premio Artusi”, important annual recognition of those who leave an indelible mark on the relationship between mankind and food. In addition to his constant work in architecture, Antonio Citterio continues his long-standing activity in the industrial design sector working in collaboration with Italian and international companies. Some of his works are part of exhibitions at MoMA in New York and at the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris. In 2021, with ACPV Antonio Citterio produced “The Importance of Being an Architect”, a documentary film conceived as a virtual dialogue and musical journey in four acts that investigates the responsibility of architects in building the society of tomorrow. The film has been featured in several festivals worldwide and on the TV channel Sky Arte. Driven by his belief that beautiful surroundings can heighten the enjoyment of even mundane everyday rituals, Italian architect and industrial designer Antonio Citterio creates furniture that combines sophisticated form with functionality. Citterio’s timeless neoclassical-inspired chairs, outdoor furniture, desks and other pieces have earned him a place among the most influential furniture designers working in his native country.

Born in 1950 in Meda, Citterio grew up just a stone's throw away from the artistic hub of Milan. In 1972, at just 22 years old, he opened his first design studio and designed a chair for the La Rinascente department store while completing his studies in architecture at the Polytechnic University of Milan. Citterio established a partnership with famed furniture designer Terry Dwan, and the pair worked together during the 1980s and 1990s, designing striking buildings in European cities as well as Japan. He is currently chairperson at an interior design and architecture firm with fellow architect Patricia Viel and eight other partners.

Citterio taught at the Università della Svizzera Italiana in Mendrisio, Switzerland, from 2006 to 2016. He holds art director roles for high-end furniture manufacturers Maxalto, Arclinea and Azucena, and today, Citterio lounge chairs, sofas and other furnishings are in hotels all over the world. Citterio’s work is synonymous with luxury, and has yielded collaborations with reputable brands such as Kartell, Knoll, Flexform, Vitra and B&B Italia. His Sity seating collection for the latter and kitchen furnishings for Arclinea are among his best-known innovations.
