About the Item

Mitzi sofa presents a poplar plywood base with erable finish, semi-gloss water–based varnish, iron inner structure, polyurethane cushions, wool cloth upholstery and cloth–covered buttons. Base impressed HH/poltronova. The Mitzi sofa is produced since the 1981 by Poltronova, it's part of the rich production of the Austrian master Hans Hollein, and highlights a rigorous design and a dialectic between different connotations and symbolisms. Soft and rigid elements are present together in the materials and forms. Upholstered cushions and soft wool cloth come alongside the wood, both solid and in sheets, of the structure, and the curved line of the backrest coexists with the straight line at the base, masculine and feminine together. The use of the particular type of curve, not fully-rounded, evokes the Viennese visual imagery from which Hollein comes. The refined primary colours, white, black and red, seem an integral part of the design idea rather than something at the service of the form. Literature: 'Dal Salone Internazionale del Mobile di Milano 1984', Domus, no. 657, January 1985, p. 54 Juli Capella and Quim Larrea, Designed by Architects in the 1980s, New York, 1988, p. 87.
