About the Item

An impressive and fully functional example of the iconic MP85 sleeper sofa by Percival Lafer, designed in 1971. This piece includes the original pull-out bed—a rare feature among existing models. The frame is crafted from solid jatobá wood, a dense, richly grained tropical hardwood native to South America. Valued for its durability, strength, and warm reddish tone, jatobá is commonly used in high-end furniture and architectural applications. The backrest tilts forward to convert the piece into a bed, while the integrated pull-out sofa glides outward to create an additional sleeping surface. The piece has been professionally restored and reupholstered in custom jacquard fabric, preserving its original structure while enhancing its refined presence. This model is documented in the Percival Lafer book, pages 106–107. A collectible example of mid-century Brazilian modern design—rare, elegant, and versatile, suited for both use and display. Shipping is not included in the listed price. We will provide a shipping quote based on the buyer’s location. Buyers may also arrange their own shipping if preferred.
