Valeria Borsani & Alfredo Bonetti "D120" Modular Sofa for Tecno, 1966, Set of 4

About the Item

Valeria Borsani & Alfredo Bonetti "D120" modular sofa for Tecno, black leather, 1966, set of four. Valeria Borsani and Alfredo Bonetti, members of the internal creative team in Tecno in the 1960s, conceived this identifying sectional sofa in 1966. The combination of the different single modules offers flexibility in configuration, allowing it to accommodate diverse spatial and personal preferences. This modularity introduces a customizable seating solution tailored to individual needs. The sofa features a chrome steel structure, with visible "duck-feet" lookalike legs capped by offset disc bases, giving the piece a strong personality and identity. These cylindrical legs elevate the seat, creating a light and refined aesthetic. The modular units connect seamlessly, forming geometric and symmetrical configurations on the side. The soft, enveloping cushions and backrest elements in black leather enhance both comfort and relaxation. Forerunner of the iconic "Camaleonda" designed by Mario Bellini later in 1970, the "D120" definitely has some connections with the Bellini couch, like the smooth lines, the modularity, and some details like the use of chromed metal elements. It's worth remarking that the "D120" emerged during a pivotal era in Italian design, where figures like Gio Ponti, Achille Castiglioni, Afra & Tobia Scarpa, and Gianfranco Frattini were shaping a global reputation for Italian innovation. Their work redefined living spaces, focusing on functionality, aesthetics, and material quality - principles reflected in the "D120" couch's design. In this creative environment, Valeria Borsani, daughter of renowned architect and designer Osvaldo Borsani, brought an innovative approach and a sensitivity to material selection to the project. On the other hand, Alfredo Bonetti contributed a keen understanding of balancing utility and aesthetic value. Together, they created a refined piece that exemplifies mid-century Italian design, blending technical precision with innovative shapes. We accurately check the quality of each object.
