About the Item

Postmodern Bar Stools, Model 4822 “Polo” by Anna Castelli Ferrieri for Kartell, Italy, 1984 Designed by pioneering Italian architect and designer Anna Castelli Ferrieri, these striking Model 4822 “Polo” bar stools are a quintessential example of postmodern design for Kartell. Castelli Ferrieri, one of the first female architects in Italy and co-founder of Kartell, was celebrated for her innovative use of materials and bold geometric forms. These bar stools, with their dynamic interplay of curves and straight lines, embody the playful yet functional spirit of postmodernism. Produced in Italy in 1984, the bar stools feature a sculptural combination of molded black plastic and tubular white enameled metal, giving them both visual contrast and structural clarity. The circular footrest and distinctive arched back detail add both comfort and architectural presence, while the open cut-out seat design enhances their graphic appeal. Each bar stool measures 89 cm (35.04 in) in height, with a seat height of 75 cm (29.53 in). Their compact proportions—40 cm wide by 40 cm deep (15.75 in)—make them ideal for high kitchen counters, bars, or modern dining environments. The set is in very good vintage condition, showing only minor traces of use consistent with age. Surfaces display light wear but remain structurally sound, preserving their striking design integrity. Their durable construction in molded plastic and metal ensures they are as functional as they are collectible. A bold statement for any modern interior, this set of bar stools is emblematic of late-20th-century Italian design—where industrial innovation met artistic vision. Both rare and iconic, they exemplify Anna Castelli Ferrieri’s influential role in shaping Kartell’s legacy as a leader in modern furniture design. Anna Castelli Ferrieri Design in Years '80 for Kartell Set of Two Stools "Polo"
By Anna Castelli Ferrieri
Located in Biella, IT
Anna Castelli Ferrieri design in years '80 for Kartell two stools "polo" in white, light grey and black color, in good vintage condition with light sign of use Anna Castelli Ferrieri (August 6, 1918 - June 22, 2006) was an Italian architect and industrial designer. She is most known for her influence in the use of plastics as a mainstream design material and her cofounding of Kartell, an Italian contemporary furniture company. Ferrieri was a pioneering architect, commonly associated with post war Italian Modern Design. Her design focused on technological innovation through the use of new materials, like plastic. Ferrieri created more than 50 architectural projects, but some of her most famous and iconic works are as follow; the Kartell headquarters (with it being made from brilliant red blocks), a residential building on Via Marchiondi in Milan, and several offices and factories in Alfa Romeo. All of these were created in collaboration with Ignazio Gardella.[1] Although, according to biographer Cristina Morozzi, Gardella took the recognition for projects that Ferrieri worked on because he wanted to be the master of his own studio.[9] In 1982, she created the first table...
