Carlo Wingback Lounge Chair designed by Ib Kofod Larsen 1954

About the Item

Carlo wingback lounge chair designed by Ib Kofod Larsen in 1954, for Carlo Gahrn. In Denmark. This editon was produced under license by Gelderland in the Netherlands in the 1960ies. Characteristic for the Carlo lounge chair is it’s low profile and wingback outline. Ib Kofod Larsen created it in 1954 already. He combined classical danish craftsmanship with the then new plywood technology for manufacturing the back rest. Significant for the Carlo chair is it’s „thin“ edges and elegant Wingback seat. Pulling up/down the lever under the armrest enables the reclining mechanism of the back rest, that can adjust in three positions. The mechanism to change the seat position should be used before taking a seat. The base from solid teak wood holds the seat shell and back rest that is joint between the rear end of the base. Two hinges and the mechanism underneath the seat allow to adjust seat position. The chair offers an extraordinary comfort. It has been reupholstered in light blue fabric that looks brilliant with the solid teak wood and the brass joints. The wood joints of the base have been rehoused and the wood received treatment with teak oil. Overall very good vintage condition with signs of use and wear appropriate to the chairs age. Freshly re-upholstered in light blue fabric. Chair does not have makers mark but there is wide documentation of who designed this chair
