About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this sympathetically restored, 1642 Charles I / Jacobean, hand carved English oak coffer, trunk or chest This piece is stunning, its hand carved to the front with the date 1642 to the right and the initials BD to the left. The chest itself dates to a little earlier, I would say 1620-1630 making it Jacobean hence the style of carving This has been lightly washed back and French polished by my restorer, the idea being to get off any dirt but keep the honesty and age of the piece intact There will be some light losses, age related movement in the timber and old repairs as you would expect, all of which adds to the charge and charisma of the piece Dimensions Height:- 64.5cm Width:- 126.5cm Depth:- 58.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. CONDITION Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description pertaining to the condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of creasing and wear, we recommend annual waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade
