A scarce antique early American country single drawer lift-top faux grain painted blanket chest - mule chest with beautifully aged warm rich patina, circa 1780
Hand-crafted in the New England region of the Northeastern United States in the second half of the 18th century, comprised of solid wood, most likely pine or poplar, since expensive woods were hard to find throughout the Colonies, especially the rural areas, it features the original rich warm Colonial hand painted faux cherry graining finish and beautifully aged reddish brown patina. Crafted in period English Chippendale taste, having a hinged lid door at the top that flips open to reveal the large sized storage trunk, fitted with a small compartment for storing smaller items. Over a single full-length drawer with quality hand-cut dovetail joinery and affixed with an unusual trio of brass batwing pulls. Raised on ogee bracket feet with carved and molded edge trim.

This essential yet precious collection is highly refined in its clear, defined lines: a series of small bronze sculptures which are able to combine typical renaissance taste in terms of perfection of form, with the minimalist aesthetic refinement of the Art Deco movement. A series of small home furnishing accessories in which a collection of flowing lines, at times clean and linear, at times softer and more rounded, follow after each other to delineate original geometric surfaces. Their mirror-like finish gives back glimpses of images, light, and colors to the environment. in a skillful game of perfect formal harmony which seems embellished, and at the same time accentuated, by the metal's shininess.
/Bron-zì-no/ Created following Donatello's wonderful work on the Pontifical Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua, and popularised during the renaissance as an expression of admiration for antiquity, bronzetti are small bronze objects - small-scale reproductions of classical sculptures and bas-reliefs - or, more simply, objects created with the function of picchiotti, the door knockers which had been placed at the entrances to noble residences since ancient times. Antique and vintage blanket chests go by many names. You may have heard them called hope chests, dowry chests or Lane cedar chests, with the latter referring to the now-famous case pieces manufactured by the Lane Furniture company.
No matter the name, these were initially large crude wooden boxes with hinged lids where you stowed away your blankets, household linens and possibly some valuables. Everyone can always use a bit more storage in our bedrooms or guest bedrooms, and blanket chests can be a stylish solution to help you stay organized, particularly if you’re short on closet space.
Blanket storage trunks are still typically equipped with hinges on their lids for easy access to their large storage capacity. They’re often rectangular pieces, but in the hands of today’s furniture designers, contemporary blanket chests take on many shapes and are made of varying materials. Most antique blanket chests are made out of wood, from rich mahogany to oak.
