About the Item

Syrian / Anglo Indian, 18th century or earlier. The finest quality Syrian Anglo Indian blanket chest I have come across in my career. Featuring an incredible geometric bone inlaid surface which is surrounded by multi layered exotic wood detailing and a six star inlaid border edge. The exterior of the top is heavily carved with acanthus leafs and two figural lion heads to the corners of top. The face of the chest, sides and interior have a renaissance inspired iron strap work windows with period velvet backing and an original heavy hand forged iron lock. The Interior is as unique as the exterior with a bone set inlay, matching iron strap work to exterior and large hand forged iron strapping. A pair of finely carved dog feet support this beautiful piece of art. From a private New York City estate.
