18th Century, French, Louis XIV Carved Oak Buffet Deux Corps from Normandy

About the Item

Display your fine Quimper or China collection in this museum quality antique display cabinet. Crafted in Normandy circa 1760, the exceptional buffet deux-corps is in immaculate condition. The cabinet features a flat molded cornice over foliage carved freeze decor, and a central cartouche decorated with blooming flower buds. The upper body features two doors with brass mesh chicken wire covered windows and a central divide carved with floral festoons. The cabinet opens to reveal an interior with display shelving with scalloped edges. The lower section features two foliate carved raised panel doors over a straight plinth base. All peg construction retains the original barrel hinges and graceful curvilinear escutcheons. The elegant cabinet is in excellent condition with a rich walnut patina. Original locks and key. Measures: 60" W x 25" D x 93" H.

Decorate an entry or a living room with this elegant buffet. Crafted in France circa 1970, and built of walnut, the cabinet stands on a thick plinth base. The piece features two arched paneled doors decorated with carved floral motifs in the corners, and flanked with small rectangular doors on both sides with decorative double hinges. Opening the side doors and center double doors of the cabinet, it reveals a light blue painted interior with two shelves for ultimate storage. The top with rounded corners is also built of walnut over two small frieze cutlery drawers dressed with iron pulls, and embellished with carved geometric decor. The narrow Louis XIV style buffet is in excellent condition and adorns a rich walnut patina. Versatile, it could also be used in a hallway, a bedroom, or converted into a vanity cabinet with the addition of a sink.
