Louis XV-Style Buffet with Floral Marquetry from the Napoleon III era
About the Item
This stunning and extremely rare 19th century Louis XV-style buffet opens at the front with a single door and drawer. Adorned with intricate floral marquetry, the door displays a bouquet in a vase set within a frame highlighted by a border in darkened pear wood, further accentuated by four light wood stars. The execution quality is impeccable, showcasing the use of a variety of wood types (mahogany, lemonwood, maple, darkened pearwood, rosewood, etc.).
The sides are decorated with interlaced diamond patterns and featuring circles on the inside. The 'ceinture' of this piece features a frieze, while the drawer is embellished with a quiver and torch motif. The aesthetic appeal of this buffet is further enhanced by numerous finely detailed and gilded bronzes, including claw feet, drops, torch ends, lock entry, and moldings.
Topped with a 3 cm thick 'Brèche Medicis' marble, the surface's shape features a pronounced groove. The use of mahogany used for the backs as well as the inside of this piece exhibits high-quality finishes and is a testament to its craftsmanship.
This buffet originates from Paris and was built in the renowned workshops of the Faubourg Saint Antoine.
