19th Century Transition Style Buffet d'Entre Deux in Marquetry

About the Item

A transition-style buffet d'entre deux from the Napoleon III era. It has a curved front and opens with two doors on the sides and a large drawer above them. The marquetry is adorned with a maze-like design, also known as the Greek key motif, in rosewood filets, framing an open butterfly-winged palisander leaf inside. This filet pattern also decorates the drawer on both sides. The doors are embellished with four gilded bronze corner mounts. The canted uprights are adorned with gilt bronze scraps and sabots. Its top is covered in leather and bordered with brass moulding. It is mounted on an oak frame. Our piece has been cleaned and polished by our expert cabinetmaker. Due to its modest width measuring 77 centimeters, it is ideal for placement between two windows.
