About the Item

19th Century, French Louis XVI Style Wood Secretaire Sideboard Rare veneered wood secretaire sideboard, France, late 18th century - early 19th century Measurements: cm W 105 x H 113 x D 35; height of the desk top with open drop 75 cm The Louis XVI belief was built in the late 18th and early 19th centuries in France. Its unusual structure provides particularly high legs for this kind of furniture, which has, on the front of a slope turning it into a desk. Inside there is a open compartment and some small drawers veneered in bois de rose and desk top lined with leather with gold printed edging. On the underside is a drawer decorated with gilded bronzes finely chiseled with cornucopia motifs from which flowers, ribbons with bows and geometric frames emerge. Likewise the uprights are enriched with gilded bronzes in the shape of classic braziers with lit flames and frames with semisphere elements. The sides are concave and slightly widen towards the back. This device gives gracefulness and movement to the overall structure. The uprights end with a quadrangular wooden element centered by choruses and round gilded bronze superimposed by bronze acanthus leaves. On the front of the lower band, with a mixed profile, there are other applications in gilded bronze with phytomorphic elements and a vase of classic taste with still life of flowers and fruits. The four truncated legs of an inverted pyramid originate with a bronze band decorated with flowers and end with a golden bronze toe chiseled with leaf elements. A small open plan, connected to the legs, is surrounded by a perforated and gilded bronze railing. The same element partially surrounds the top of the cabinet, centered by white marble with gray veins. This very particular and unusual piece of furniture is very decorative, easily placed in living rooms, studios, rooms, entrances and corridors. Its versatile use allows it to be adapted to any environment, both combined with antique furniture and in modern environments.
