Art Nouveau Carved and Burl Walnut Display Cabinet circa 1900

About the Item

ART NOUVEAU CARVED AND BURL WALNUT DISPLAY CABINET Circa early 20th century unmarked of very fine quality Item # 410YOI09P An incredibly beautiful statement piece, this Art Nouveau display cabinet features a loosely organic form with fully developed carvings of oak leaves and acorns in the upper corners under an inset molding. The front door retains the original custom key and custom cast bronze escutcheon, this opening to reveal an interior of three clear glass shelves and a single mirrored glass shelf in line with where the door goes blind. The blind portion of the door features an inset raised-panel with a stunningly beautiful book-matched burl walnut veneer while a similar arrangement is used on the sides of the case as well. Circa the first quarter of the 20th century. About silla antiques & art Established in 2009, we have available in our 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery an ever-changing selection of carefully curated and catalogued furniture, decorative arts, paintings, sculpture and estate jewelry. Our company has long specialized in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display. The gallery is located at 117 W Burd Street in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania and is open by appointment only. We welcome your visit and would love to meet with you at the shop. For clients located outside of the area, we are always available to discuss items by video conferencing or by phone. Measurements: 72 3/8" H x 18" D x 41" W Condition Report: Old surface, probably refreshed over the last century, overall with minor scuffs and abrasions that have been lightly polished out. A lovely overall patina. Glass shelves with minor chips and losses throughout, lowest mirrored shelf with silvering loss; eyehook shelf hardware is probably modern. On the back right and left sides there is a void in the molding at the back edge. This is something we usually see when a piece is installed permanently and void is cut in situ to allow for baseboard and other moldings. However, this example appears to have been designed this way by the maker with no evidence of tooling after the fact. It was perhaps intended to be built into a room when it was originally ordered. A very fine presentation. Retains original working key.
