Dune Allen Credenza in Solid Walnut

About the Item

The Dune Allen credenza is crafted to handle all your storage needs with refined simplicity. Clean lines and strong joinery amount to a piece that is sturdy, yet elegant. The carcass is built from 1 1/4" solid walnut with dovetailed joints to last for generations. The base is constructed from straight grained pieces of 8/4 walnut with hand fitted bridle joints pinned with maple pegs. The cabinet can be customized to fit your specific needs with shelves and drawers to accommodate anything from a record collection to wine and spirits. We begin each piece with a stack of walnut; carefully selecting boards for straightness of grain and lack of defects such as knots or sapwood. Each piece is milled by hand on our well maintained machines, then joinery is hand cut by finely tuned, time honored hand tools. Finally, the case is finished with a blend of natural oils and waxes all in our 7th floor studio in Downtown Los Angeles.

Santee Sideboard Cabinet in Walnut
By Greg Mitchell
Located in Los Angeles, CA
The namesake of this piece is an alley one block from our Los Angeles studio, known for its bazaar-like display of stalls hawking clothes and textiles at wholesale prices. The scene is reminiscent of markets in Central America and, walking through it during breaks from the shop, one feels instantly transported out of the US. It's a hectic environment, however, and the Santee Sideboard is a meditation on minimalism in answer to the raucous consumerism taking place below. We take great care in selecting the sustainably harvested lumber for every piece. Each panel of the cabinet, once milled and joined, is polished with well tuned hand planes...

Beachcomber Counter Stool in Walnut
By Greg Mitchell
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Light and strong, the Beachcomber Counter Stool evokes the sight of an old wooden single hull; it's lean, sturdy mast together with the rigging worthy of the high seas. Constructed of hand shaped legs and stretchers, each piece is carefully fit and pinned with hardwood pegs and wedges to last for generations, much like the sea craft that inspire them. For every bar stool, we start with scrupulously chosen lumber; each board must consist of straight grain and have absolutely no defects. This is not just for aesthetics, the clear grain gives the stool its strength. The boards are then milled to dimension and shaped by hand using a combination of machines and time honored hand tools. They are then given a polish by taking thin shavings with well sharpened planes and spokeshaves; rarely is sandpaper used in our shop. Once assembled, the Beachcomber bar stool...
