About the Item
Patina Perfection!! A rare, likely one-of-a-kind monumental sized antique Pennsylvania general store cupboard / mercantile cabinet.
Born in PA in the early 19th century, featuring rustic hand-crafted one-piece solid wooden construction in the original pale green sage paint decorated finish with light cream accents and mellow warm patina over the whole.
Hand-crafted in traditional New England Colonial / American country industrial taste, having a simple cornice adorned tall two door cabinet, opening to reveal shelved interior and pine plank boarded back, over a trio of drawers affixed with industrial metal pulls, atop two slant-front drop door storage bins.

Large scale and oversized proportions, ideal for your farmhouse kitchen, used as a sideboard / buffet, or displayed in your period bed and breakfast.
Provenance / Acquisition:
Acquired from reputable auction house Bright Star Antiques, Sulfur Springs, Texas. They have been specializing in American country antiques and industrial architectural salvage for over 25 years.
Great original antique condition. Presents splendidly, especially considering it's around 200 years old. Strong, sturdy and structurally sound, enhanced with nicely aged naturally distressed patina. Wear consistent with age and indicative of use add to the antique character, rustic warmth, and overall historical depth that can only be acquired over long periods of time.

Hand-crafted in France in the 18th century, with later 19th century elements, likely originating in the south of France / Mediterranean region, featuring pegged solid wooden construction of warm, rich fruitwood, chesnut, oak, and maple.
Having a slant-front bureau with tall raised back decorated with three Renaissance Revival style high relief panels, the center depicting religious scene comprising Jesus and winged Saint, the side panels with foliate floral fruit pendant carvings, flanked by classical turned baluster-form columns, surmounted with highly stylized hand carved and turned finials. Over a slant-front with star parquetry, the hinged drop-front opens to reveal a distressed leather writing desk / lectern / pulpit on which the holy books can be laid open and allows to shelter the books, which were considered precious goods at that time. The lower sacristy cabinet has a pair of slide-out supports flanking a paneled cupboard door decorated with a large stepped base Christian cross parquetry inlay, affixed with later decorative forged iron faux escutcheon overtop.
