About the Item

Walnut medallion with an oriental decoration in mother-of-pearl, wood and bone marquetry. It opens with 2 doors onto 9 drawers, with different compartments. This medallion is typical of the work of Giuseppe Parvis: a great Italian cabinetmaker, he settled in Cairo in 1859 and he was inspired by all the architectural and decorative elements that he could see everywhere in Egypt to create his own style of Arabist furniture. He very quickly furnished the beautiful Egyptian homes, then thanks to his participation in the Universal and International Exhibitions, conquered the European market. The photos that can still be found of his store bear witness to the profusion of his creations; after the Mamluk taste, it will be inspired by the ornamentations and decor characteristic of ancient Egypt Some veneer jumps and missing parts, old restorations Height 127cm 71 x 35cm Dimension of the drawers: H5cm 63 x 28cm
