About the Item

A really nice honey oak Arts and Crafts glazed front display cabinet. The top frieze has an attractive zig zag frieze. The two glazed doors feature the original Arts and Crafts ironwork handle, a lock and key. They open and inside there are two adjustable shelves. This cabinet would make a fantastic crockery, display or bookshelf. It's great size means it would be a fabulous addition to any room. The Arts and Crafts movement was a revival of handicrafts that lasted from around 1880 to 1910. It emerged as a backlash against machinery and factory production-led art, with the movement beginning later in the same century as the Industrial Revolution. Additionally, many of the movement's influencers had socialist ideas. British writer John Ruskin's writings attacking the division of labour and industrial capitalism would heavily influence the Arts and Crafts philosophy. The Arts and Crafts movement changed the way architects, artists, and furniture builders considered form, function, and design.
