About the Item

Rare Italian Walnut "Renaissance" Collector's Cabinet of The Grand Tour. Architectural form influenced by the design of The Pitti Palace in Florence. Drop front opens by engaging two side latches hidden in the quoins. Inside reveals interior architectural features and many hidden compartments. The top cabinet was created in the Mid-19th Century while the base was adapted from a 16th Century Cabinet or Cassone and bears Florentine shields. Provenance: Purchased by an American Gilded Age Family and remained in its possession until we acquired it. Paperwork available showing photos and vetting in London in 1908 by experts who claimed it to be 16th century.
