About the Item

A French Louis XV carved-wood commode, with subtle serpentine front, from the 18th century. This antique chest from France has a shapely top with scalloped sides and serpentine front, carved to mimic the shape of the case below, which houses three full-sized drawers, all flanked within carved and rounded front side posts. The drawers front are decoratively paneled, and fitted with elaborate brass Rococo hardware. Each side has a nicely carved raised panel design, the skirting is carved with playful movement around the front and each side, and this piece is presented upon petite cabriole style legs at front, with block feet in rear. The wood has a fabulous old patina, and prior worm/insect damage that we think adds loads of charm and character to this centuries old piece. Please note that the back has been replace (this can be seen in the additional images). This 18th century French Louis XV commode, placed in a living room, dining room, or bedroom, will make a wonderful storage piece, with surface space atop for your objects of affection to be nicely displayed.
