About the Item

A very fine Chippendale period chest on chest of superb quality. Made in beautifully figured Santo Domingo wood and over two hundred and fifty years has acquired a highly desirable and sought after colour and patination. English, c. 1770. Extremely rare. Why we like it This chest on chest has everything that one can dream of when looking for a perfect piece of Georgian furniture, the superb quality, a great choice of timber, subtle decoration and a most amazing colour and patination. Beautiful detailing to the original feet and the fluted frieze cornice. Rare, slightly wider proportions, great presence, original untouched surface. Such simple and practical pieces intended for everyday use and 'done in a neat but not an expensive manner', to the same high quality standards as the more sophisticated examples, consisted a significant part of Thomas Chippendale's oeuvre.
