About the Item
Mahogany chest of drawers, D. Maria style. It has a rectilinear body with four large drawers arranged vertically, topped by three smaller drawers placed side by side. The discreet and functional round handles in turned wood stand out, as do the lozenge-shaped keyholes with inlays that add value to the whole. The top is outlined by an inlaid fillet in lighter wood, simple but refined ornamentation, typical of the neoclassical taste that marked this period. It rests on curved cut-out feet, which slightly elevate the structure and give it lightness.
The joinery shows care in its execution and the use of noble raw materials, with a varnish finish that emphasises the warm veins of the mahogany. An elegant and functional piece of furniture, representative of Portuguese furniture of the period.
