About the Item

A stunning and extremely high quality French 19th century Louis XV st. Belle Époque Kingwood, leather, ormolu and Brèche d'Alep marble commode. The six drawer chest is raised by elegant tapered cabriole legs with impressive high quality fitted scrolled foliate sabots in a rich satin and burnished finish. Elegant shoots lead up the sides to exquisite pierced ormolu corner mounts with lovely scrolled foliate movements and charming finely detailed blooming flowers. Fine ormolu fillets extend along the border of each leg, along the sides, and the scalloped shaped frieze which is centered by a beautiful pierced foliate ormolu mount and set on a stunning veneered Kingwood background. At the center are six drawers each repeating the superb bombee shape of the chest and retaining their original gold tooled leather fronts and adorned with outstanding richly chased scrolled ormolu pulls and foliate keyhole escutcheons. The sides also display a remarkable bombee shape and most decorative quarter veneered designs showcasing the beautiful wood grain. Above is the original Brèche d'Alep marble top with a fine mottled border.
