Intricate and Beautiful antique hand-painted Small Commode in Rococo manner

About the Item

Anonymous Europe; ca. 1900 Polychrome and gilt wood Approximate size: 30.25 x 24.75 x 13.75 inches A 19th century small chest-of-drawers, intricately hand-painted with lovely floral compositions set against light yellow backgrounds framed by faux-gilt Rococo styled frames. The base paint is in a palette of light green, aged with an old lacquer that has yellowed, presenting the piece with proof-of-age and relinquishing itself to a beautiful time-worn patina. The interior drawers are lined with an old decorative pattern worked paper and the handles are in the form of eloquent half-shells, carved in wood. Condition: wear commensurate with age with some losses to the polychrome and minor chips and scratches. In particular, the top surface of the commode features some strafing to the polychrome and has darkened with age and use.
