Italian 17th Century Ebonized Fruitwood Commode from Milan

About the Item

An exceptional and important 17th century, circa 1680, ebonized fruitwood commode from Milan, Italy. The commode with its unique linear and architectural lines throughout has an arbalette shaped front with cut-angle corners. The moulded border paneled drawers are flanked by columns and the sides are decorated the same. It appears there are four large drawers although there are three; the top drawer has a drop front and becomes a secretary. Inside are two small faux painted drawers on each side centered by a shelf compartment. All original iron hardware, key escutcheon, and drawer pull. Museum-quality with rich rubbed patina throughout.
